Well, I just “pulled the trigger” on a self-contained spray booth, which will safely allow me to spray nitrocellulose lacquer finishes. Until now, I’ve used water-borne lacquers, which are a less toxic, though inferior, finish process that lacks the natural depth, clarity, warmth, and ease of repair that has made “nitro” the guitar finish of choice for the last hundred years. The booth is a huge expense, but will allow me to take on finishing projects throughout the seasons, so if any of my guitar-playing/building friends out there have ideas for painting/refinishing projects, give me a shout, we’ll make it happen!
